1. Choose a niche problem
Start with a repeated business process you already understand. Generic 'all-in-one software' is difficult to position; 'lead follow-up and booking for local roofers' is clearer.2. Select the reseller model
Choose between white-label platform, marketplace, wholesale license or referral. If you need your own branded client experience and pricing, a referral program is not enough.3. Configure the minimum product
Build one repeatable account configuration. Remove features that are not part of the promised outcome. Document exactly what a new client receives.4. Price and set boundaries
Include setup, support and usage assumptions. Decide what is included, what is an add-on and what happens when clients exceed normal usage.5. Sell manually before automating
Close early customers with a clear demo and onboarding process. Automate provisioning only after the offer is stable enough to repeat.Decide what the reseller is responsible for
Reselling software changes the customer relationship. Even if the vendor hosts the application, the buyer may expect you to explain setup, billing, features and limitations. Decide which questions your team handles directly and which are escalated to the underlying vendor. Put that responsibility map into your support process before volume grows.
You should also plan the exit path. Know how client data can be exported, what happens to accounts if the reseller relationship ends, and how subscriptions are canceled or transferred. A clear exit process is part of a trustworthy product even though you hope clients never need it.
